Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2025-08-07
This Privacy Policy explains how Spiritual Mentor AI (project owner) (“Spiritual Mentor AI”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use Spiritual Mentor AI.
1) What we collect
- Account & Authentication: We use Firebase Authentication (anonymous sign-in now). Firebase generates a unique user ID (UID) for your device/session. We do not require an email or password at this time.
- Chat Content: Messages you send and receive are stored in Google Cloud Firestore under your UID so you can see history across sessions/devices.
- Usage Counters: We maintain a simple daily message count per UID to enforce fair-use limits. For users who use voice mode, we similarly keep a daily count of voice seconds used per UID — never the audio itself — to enforce the same kind of fair-use limits.
- Error/Performance Data: We use Sentry for error monitoring. It captures errors, stack traces, and basic device/browser data. We do not intentionally send chat content to Sentry.
- Hosting/Runtime Logs: Our hosting provider (Vercel) may log IP address and request metadata for reliability and security.
2) How we use your information
- Provide core features (save chats, retrieve history, start new chats).
- Call third-party AI models to produce responses to your prompts.
- Enforce daily usage limits and detect abuse.
- Fix bugs, monitor reliability, and improve quality.
3) AI service providers
We send your prompts (and limited context) to our AI provider (currently OpenAI) to generate replies. We configure providers to not use API data for training where such controls exist, and we aim to choose providers with strong security practices. For details, see the provider’s documentation and terms.
3a) Voice conversations
If you use the voice (speak-and-listen) mode of Spiritual Mentor AI, your microphone audio is transmitted directly to OpenAI for real-time processing as a third-party processor — it does not pass through our servers, and we never receive, record, or store the audio itself. We keep only the resulting text transcript of what was said, exactly as we keep your typed messages. OpenAI processes the audio in real time under its own API data policies; we do not control, and are not making a claim here about, how long OpenAI itself retains audio on its side. Voice is available to signed-in users only. Starting or ending a voice conversation does not change how any other part of your data is handled.
4) Legal bases (EEA/UK users)
- Contract/Service necessity: to provide requested features.
- Legitimate interests: secure and improve the service, prevent abuse.
- Consent: if we introduce optional analytics or marketing later.
5) Sharing
We share data with service providers that help us operate Spiritual Mentor AI:
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore)
- OpenAI (AI completions)
- Vercel (hosting/build)
- Sentry (error monitoring)
We do not sell your personal information.
6) Data retention
- Chat messages: kept until you delete a conversation (feature coming) or request deletion.
- Usage counters: kept for quota and abuse prevention, then minimized.
- Error logs: retained per Sentry’s retention settings.
7) Security
We use platform security (Firebase rules) and industry practices to help protect your data. No method is 100% secure.
8) Your rights
Depending on your region, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your data. To exercise these rights, contact us at ljstokes@mac.com.
9) Children’s privacy
Spiritual Mentor AI is not directed to children under 13 (or the age required by your jurisdiction). Do not use the service if you are under the minimum age.
10) International transfers
We and our providers may process data in the United States and other countries, which may have different data-protection laws than your jurisdiction.
11) Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll revise the effective date above. Material changes will be highlighted within the app or via an appropriate notice.
